Finding Myself After 50: The Unexpected Bloom
WOW! Let’s not panic that it’s already JULY!
Six months from now, Mrs Claus will be out and about, and honestly, I’m not quite sure how that happened.
Wasn’t it just January five minutes ago?
Life seems to be moving faster these days, but in the best possible way.
As many of you know, I’ve been working with Angela on relaunching Cafe Couch, and if there’s one thing this partnership has taught me, it’s that I need to be more organised!
Now, Angela might tell you she’s not bossy, but let’s just say she’s very good at keeping things on track. And one thing I have never claimed to be is organised!
But with our Social Media Workshops, taking on new clients, creating content, and juggling all the things that come with being a wife, mom, content creator, and garden enthusiast, I’ve realised that being organised isn’t optional anymore.
It’s a work in progress, but I’m getting there!
If you’re running a business and social media feels like your biggest headache, we’d love to help. Whether you’d like to join one of our Social Media Workshops (our next one is on 28 July) or you’re looking for someone to take the reins and manage it for you, Angela and I would love to chat. We can meet for coffee, discuss your business, and put together a proposal that helps your brand grow and shine online.
Speaking of growing…
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that getting older has turned me into a complete gardening addict
Obsessed might actually be the better word!
There’s something incredibly therapeutic about being out in the garden. Watching things grow, getting your hands dirty, and seeing the rewards of your hard work is magical.
Now, I can’t take all the credit. I have Nelson, who helps me and has the most incredible green fingers. He knows exactly what to plant, when to plant it, and somehow manages to make everything flourish.
Since we started our veggie garden, we’ve been blessed with the most delicious homegrown vegetables.
Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I bought carrots, broccoli, or cauliflower.
There’s something so satisfying about walking into the garden and picking fresh vegetables for dinner.
I won’t lie though ,tomatoes have been my downfall.
For some reason, we can grow them beautifully, but getting them to that perfect red, ripe stage seems to be our biggest challenge. Every gardener has their nemesis, and apparently mine is tomatoes!
But we’ll persevere.

Much like life, gardening teaches patience. Sometimes things grow quickly. Sometimes they take their time. And sometimes you have to accept that not everything goes according to plan.
Which brings me back to where I find myself today.
After 50, I’ve discovered that life isn’t about having everything figured out. It’s about finding joy in who you are.
One of the biggest surprises on this journey has been friendship.
My circle has definitely become smaller over the years.
Some friendships faded naturally. Some ended because our paths changed. And some were left behind when I chose peace over drama.
At first, that felt strange.
But then something beautiful happened.
New friendships started to bloom.
The kind of friendships that feel easy. The ones where there’s no competition, no gossip, and no pressure to be anything other than yourself.
The funny thing is, these friendships arrived when I finally started becoming comfortable with who I am.
Walking away from drama wasn’t always easy. Sometimes it meant disappointing people.
Sometimes it meant choosing myself for the first time in years.
But every step away from chaos brought me closer to peace.
Closer to the woman I was always meant to be.
These days, I find happiness in the simple things.
A cup of TEA in the garden.
A successful workshop.
AÂ MORNING message from a friend OR 2 ( you know who you are, I dont always response but I cherish them everyday!)
A fresh batch from my veggie garden.
A good laugh with my boys.
And knowing that I’m no longer trying to fit into spaces that don’t feel right.
Life after 50 has been full of surprises.
I’ve made new friends,,cherished those that have been with me from the beginning ,discovered new passions, grown a few vegetables, killed a few tomatoes, learned new skills, started new adventures, and found a version of myself that I genuinely like.
And honestly?
I think this might be my favourite chapter yet.
So if you’re wondering whether it’s too late to reinvent yourself, make new friends, learn something new, start a business, plant a garden, or simply choose peace, I’m here to tell you it’s not.
Sometimes the most beautiful blooms arrive later in the season.
And that’s perfectly okay.
