The renowned Design Indaba is coming to the KZNSA in the form of a stimulating three-day live simulcast, with a direct feed from the main event in Cape Town that will give residents of surf city a new kind of rush. Taking place from 26-28 February 2020 at Durban’s popular gallery and courtyard café, the simulcast will share the best of international thought leaders in the creative industries.

Design Indaba has become one of the world’s leading design events and in an effort to increase accessibility to the annual conference, the simulcast offers the Design Indaba experience to those unable to travel to Cape Town. Catering to emerging designers, students and young professionals from all walks of life who are curious about the future, this live broadcast is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to celebrate the Design Indaba’s 25th anniversary as well as gain inspiration from world-class speakers.

CareerX – KZN’s largest career exhibition – is taking place at the Royal Showgrounds in Pietermaritzburg from the 6-8 March 2020. The three-day careers event will be filled with fun, interactive exhibition displays, talks by career experts, delicious food, fantastic competition prizes and is aimed at families (Grade 8-12 high school learners and their parents/guardians), matriculants, tertiary students and graduates from all demographic groups. CareerX will attract thousands of visitors from Pietermaritzburg and surrounding inland towns, as well as Durban and the rest of the KwaZulu-Natal province.

Award-winning author, renowned screenplay writer and founder of Baby Rhino Rescue, Helena Kriel, will be talking about her latest book, The Year of Facing Fire, on 21 March at iNsingizi Lodge & Spa.

Introducing a tale within a tale, The Year of Facing Fire, is a memoir which follows her journey as a writer (for the hit movie, Kama Sutra) and her family’s struggle when her beloved Brother, Evan, is diagnosed with HIV/Aids.

Kriel, who is based in South Africa but frequently travels to Los Angeles to lecture in the MFA Writing Programme at Spalding University, has been nominated for playwright of the year, written extensively for television and won the Steven Spielberg Diane Thomas Award for her first screenplay, Virtuouso, which led to her success as an A-list writer in Hollywood. She is also passionate about animals and is the founder and president of Baby Rhino Rescue, an international non-profit organisation dedicated to saving rhinos from extinction.

Kriel will delve into her book and inspirational journey at iNsingizi Lodge & Spa in Mid-Illovo on Saturday, 21 March. Tickets are R200 per person and include a delectable harvest table lunch. Booking is essential, contact (083) 414 1932 or info@insingizi.co.za.
