The Adventures of Riverlea Farm is a book series for children of any age! As a speech language pathologist for the past twenty years, I have seen first hand the benefits of language rich homes. Books play a critical role in the home environment.
In our current “tele-visual” and digital era, the number of books children are being exposed to is dropping. Yet, research shows that children who are read to have better overall academic results once they reach school. A few minutes each day with a book in hand can help build countless skills, such as listening (auditory), talking (vocabulary expansion), memory (both visual and auditory), to name a few.
The Adventures of Riverlea Farm are rich with rhyme and balanced syllables to increase a child’s sound awareness (phonemics) and improve reading (pre-literacy) ability. It has been estimated that there is a “million word gap” between children by five years of age who have never been read to and those who have been exposed to five books a day (Logan et al., 2019). It is my aim to help bridge this gap with the goal of one book a day!
